On Monday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., the Wareham Historical Society will host “an evening of history and entertainment,” focused on parlor entertainment in the 1900s.

“The parlor was a room that you entered only rarely,” explained a Wareham Historical Society statement. “You weren’t meant to be comfortable there. But every house had to have one, no matter how high the cost. What would you use it for? Entertainment became its primary use.” 

Mack and Cathy Phinney will explain the history of the types of parlor entertainment that were available from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. Some historical devices that were found in the Fearing Tavern and have been restored to working condition will be present. 

The parlor entertainment event will be held at the Meeting House located at 495 Main St.  Refreshments will be served after the program.
