MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Jarret Doege threw three touchdown passes, Leddie Brown rushed for two scores and West Virginia upset No. 22 Iowa State 38-31 on Saturday. West Virginia came alive on offense after averaging 20 points in its first four league games. Iowa State was missing injured leading tackler Mike Rose and the league’s top defense gave up a season-high 492 yards. Breece Hall rushed for 167 yards for the Cyclones. But he fumbled reaching for the potential tying touchdown with about 6 minutes left and West Virginia’s Alonzo Addae recovered. Iowa State got the ball back but Brock Purdy’s pass into the end zone fell incomplete as time ran out.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Aidan O’Connell threw for two touchdowns, Purdue intercepted four of Adrian Martinez’s passes, and the Boilermakers beat Nebraska 28-23. Purdue bounced back from last week’s home loss to Wisconsin to move within one win of bowl eligibility for the first time in four years. Nebraska lost its third straight game and would have to win out against Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa to get to a bowl for the first time in five years. The Huskers entered the game as a touchdown favorite. The loss is certain to ratchet up the pressure another notch on fourth-year coach Scott Frost.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Spencer Sanders threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 53 yards and a score, all in the first half, to lead No. 15 Oklahoma State to a dominating 55-3 victory over Kansas. After suffering its first loss, to Iowa State, last week, Oklahoma State (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) responded with a statement performance.  It was a rough day for Kansas (1-7, 0-5), which lost its seventh consecutive contest. 

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tyler Badie set the offensive pace for the Missouri Tigers on Saturday afternoon with two rushing touchdowns and 294 total yards in a 37-28 Southeastern Conference win over Vanderbilt. The Commodores, who have lost 18 straight SEC games, pulled ahead 14-10 in the second quarter on a 10-yard run by Patrick Smith. After a fake Vanderbilt field-goal attempt resulted in a 5-yard rushing loss by kicker Joseph Bulovas, Missouri took over with 15 seconds left in the first half. That was enough time for Connor Bazelak to fire a 45-yard scoring strike to Keke Chism, giving the Tigers a 17-14 lead at halftime. Badie’s 73-yard run on first down late in the final quarter set up Tyler Macon’s 2-yard TD run to wrap up the win.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Felix Anudike-Uzomah had four sacks while forcing two fumbles to help Kansas State to a 31-12 victory over TCU. Wildcats star Deuce Vaughn ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns while Skylar Thompson threw for 242 yards with a touchdown on the ground and through the air. TCU drove inside the 5-yard line three times but came away with only a field goal from the trips. Max Duggan was just 9 of 13 for 73 yards for the Horned Frogs before he was benched for Chandler Morris in the third quarter. Morris wound up finishing the game for them.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Torey Krug scored and Jordan Binnington made 25 saves in the St. Louis Blues’ 1-0 victory over the winless Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. The Blackhawks dropped to 0-7-2 to set a franchise record for the worst start to a season. Chicago was winless through eight games in 1953-54, when they were 0-7-1, and 1999-00, when they were 0-4-4. Krug scored on a power play at 7:35 of the third period. The Blues rebounded after their first loss of the season Thursday night.  

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Theo Day threw two third-quarter touchdown passes and Northern Iowa created four turnovers in its 23-16 win over Southern Illinois. The Salukis, ranked No. 3 in the FCS coaches poll, led by 10 late in the first half but Northern Iowa scored 20 of the final 23. Nic Baker completed 27 of 42 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown but threw a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions for Southern Illinois (6-2, 4-1). The No. 17 Panthers have played four straight games against ranked opponents, losing to North Dakota State and South Dakota before beating then-No. 7 South Dakota State last Saturday. 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu has apologized for a tweet calling his team’s supporters “one of the most toxic fan bases in all of sports” amid a 3-4 start for the two-time defending AFC champions. The All-Pro safety was replying to a tweet from teammate Anthony Hitchens on Friday. The linebacker had pointed out that Kansas City has been to three AFC title games, two Super Bowls and delivered the club’s first championship in 50 years in his time with the club. Mathieu says his tweet was “a mistake.” and that he “shouldn’t have used those words.”
