Hyderabad: The Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Technology organised the first Sports Scholarship programme through which they distributed scholarships to students who excelled in sports.
The educational institution has a three-floor indoor stadium with state-of-the-art gymnasium, table tennis, squash courts and a cricket ground. “Every year we offer free seats to 35 meritorious sports students under sports quota to the tune of Rs 1.4 crore,” said Marri Rajashekar Reddy, TRS party’s Malkajgiri constituency in-charge and the secretary of MLRIT.
He further said that MLRIT was the only institute with Khelo India accreditation to the badminton and tennis academies. The main aim of the programme was to encourage students who were promising in sports to pursue their dream without any hindrance. Balancing education and sports has become very difficult these days and many tend to let go of their ambitions in sports to pursue studies, he added.
