Bulldogs bite Tigers

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia did little to tarnish its status as the nation’s No. 1 college football team.

Stetson Bennett and JT Daniels shredded Missouri’s defense as the Bulldogs rolled to a 43-6 victory. Bennett passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to Daniels. In his first appearance in more than a month, Daniels completed 7 of 11 passes for 82 yards and a TD.

The Bulldogs were impressive in scoring 40 unanswered points after Missouri’s early 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, there are no more unbeaten teams in the Big Ten following Purdue’s 40-29 rout of CFP No. 3 Michigan State. Aidan O’Connell threw for a career-best 536 yards and matched his career high with three scoring strikes.

O’Connell went 40 of 54 in helping the Boilermakers beat a top-3 school for the second time this season.

The Spartans fell to 8-1 despite Kenneth Walker III’s 23 carries for 146 yards and a score.

In Saturday’s other top-25 action:

— C.J. Stroud threw for 405 yards and two touchdowns, but CFP No. 5 Ohio State needed a couple of late stops to preserve a win at Nebraska, 26-17. Stroud completed 36 of 54 passes but threw two interceptions after having gone four straight games without being picked off. The Buckeyes had the nation’s leading offense, but it managed just two field goals in the second half, allowing the Cornhuskers to pull within six points at one point.

— Desmond Ridder threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns as CFP No. 6 Cincinnati got past Tulsa, 28-20. Alec Peirce had five catches for 113 yards and a touchdown to help the 9-0 Bearcats extend the nation’s second-longest home winning streak to 24 games. Cincinnati didn’t seal the win until Steven Anderson fumbled as he was reaching for the goal line late in the game, allowing Jabari Taylor to make the recovery for a touchback.

— North Carolina rallied from 18 down in the third quarter to stun CFP No. 9 Wake Forest 58-55. Ty Chandler ran for career highs of 213 yards and four touchdowns, including a 50-yard scoring run with 1:12 left. Sam Howell threw for 216 yards and a touchdown while running for 104 and two more scores for the 5-4 Tar Heels.

— Jack Coan completed 23 of 29 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown as CFP No. 10 Notre Dame thumped Navy, 34-6. Coan tossed a 70-yard scoring pass to Kevin Austin late in the first half. Kyren Williams ran for 95 yards and two TDs on 17 carries, helping the Fighting Irish rack up 430 total yards.

— Spencer Sanders threw two touchdown passes and CFP No. 11 Oklahoma State recording eight sacks in a 24-3 silencing of West Virginia. The Mountaineers were limited to 133 total yards, including 17 yards on the ground against the Big 12′s top rushing defense.

— Chandler Morris threw for 461 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for TCU and the Horned Frogs beat CFP No. 12 Baylor, 30-28. The Horned Frogs snapped a three-game losing streak six days after the school and Gary Patterson mutually agreed to immediately part ways after almost 21 seasons together.

— Micheal Clemons scored the game’s only touchdown on a 24-yard fumble return early in the fourth quarter of CFP No. 14 Texas A&M’s 20-3 victory against No. 13 Auburn. Clemons’ scoop-and-score came after defensive tackle Jayden Peevy poked the ball away from scrambling Auburn quarterback Bo Nix.

— Matt Corral threw for 324 yards and a touchdown to lead 15th-ranked Mississippi past Liberty and former Rebels coach Hugh Freeze, 27-14. The 7-2 Rebels raced to a 24-0 halftime lead, highlighted by a 70-yard touchdown run by Jerrion Ealy on the game’s second play.

— Jaren Hall threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half of and No. 17 BYU’s 59-14 dismantling of Idaho State. Puka Nacua had six catches for 120 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars.

— Jahan Dotson caught 11 passes for a school-record 242 yards and three touchdowns, helping No. 22 Penn State snap a three-game losing streak with a 31-14 victory over Maryland.

— Seth Henigan threw for 392 yards and two touchdowns while Memphis’ defense stymied No. 23 SMU in a 28-25 victory over the Mustangs.

Nuggets escape against Rockets

UNDATED (AP) — Today’s NBA schedule has begun with the Nuggets eking out a 95-94 win over the Rockets.

Nikola Jokic (nih-KOH’-lah YOH’-kihch) blocked Jae’Sean Tate’s drive to the basket as time ran out. Jokic finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds in the absence of forward Michael Porter Jr, who left the game in the first quarter with lower back tightness.

Rodgers loses endorsement deal

UNDATED (AP) — A Wisconsin health care company has ended a nine-year partnership with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

A statement posted on Twitter by Prevea Health said the company and Rodgers mutually agreed to end their partnership. The move comes a day after Rodgers told “The Pat McAfee Show” he had sought alternative treatments to COVID-19 vaccination because he is allergic to an ingredient in two of the FDA-approved shots.

Rodgers did not say what ingredient he was allergic to, or how he knows he is allergic.

In other NFL news:

— A person familiar with the agreement tells The Associated Press the Browns and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. have agreed to terms for his release. The person says Beckham has signed off on the settlement and will be waived Monday.

— The Bears will once again be without star linebacker Khalil Mack, though they might have running back David Montgomery available when they visit the Steelers on Monday night. Mack will miss his second consecutive game with a foot injury.

— Browns All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin was placed on injured reserve with a dislocated elbow, which will force him to miss at least three games. Conklin got hurt in the second quarter of last weekend’s 15-10 loss to Pittsburgh.

— The Titans have activated starting linebacker Jayon Brown from injured reserve. Brown had missed the last five games with a knee injury suffered in the Titans’ loss to the Jets.

—Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley will miss at least three games after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. The move follows Ridley’s announcement last week that he needs “to step away from football at this time and focus on my mental wellbeing.”

NHL-BLACKHAWKS-COLLITON FIRED

Blackhawks axe Colliton

CHICAGO (AP) — The Blackhawks have fired coach Jeremy Colliton (KAH’-lih-tuhn) and two of his assistants following the team’s 1-9-2 start. Colliton was in his fourth season at the helm, and the first season of a two-year contract extension.

Derek King was promoted from Chicago’s AHL affiliate at Rockford to replace Colliton on an interim basis.

Bolts extend point streak to 5 games

UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Lightning are 4-0-1 in their last five games following a victory at Ottawa.

Steven Stamkos scored his sixth goal of the season to break a tie midway through the third period of the Bolts’ 5-3 downing of the Senators. Ondrej Palat (AHN’-dray pah-LAHT’) provided the eventual game-winner for the Lightning, who also received goals from Victor Hedman, Jan Rutta (yahn ROO’-tah), and Anthony Cirelli.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS

Petrovic, Furyk share TimberTech lead

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Tim Petrovic birdied the final two holes for an 11-under 61 and a share of the lead with Jim Furyk after a 36-hole Saturday in the TimberTech Championship at Boca Raton.

Furyk closed with a birdie for a 64 to match Petrovic at 14-under 130 at The Old Course at Broken Sound.

The 55-year-old Petrovic is winless on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.
