UNDATED (AP) — Associated Press college football poll voters are grappling with how too handle head-to-head results in a season that has been filled with twists and turns. Georgia has made things easy as far as voting for No. 1 in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. What comes after has been more complicated. For the first time in a month, Oregon moved ahead of No. 6 Ohio State, putting the Ducks at No. 5 by four points. Oregon reached as high as No. 3 in the nation after it beat Ohio State, but then slipped behind the Buckeyes for several weeks. Head-to-head results don’t have to be the deciding factor, but there are a few cases in this week’s poll where they probably should have been.

UNDATED (AP) — Appalachian State cornerback Steven Jones is making the most of his interceptions lately. Jones has returned three of his four interceptions the last two weeks for touchdowns, with two of the plays coming in Saturday’s 48-14 win at Arkansas State. Jones and Iowa’s Riley Moss are the only players with two in a game. North Carolina’s Ty Chander had the top rushing performance with 213 yards on 22 carries against Wake Forest. South Florida’s Brian Battie ran back two kicks 100 yards against Houston. That makes him the second player in FBS history with two 100-yarders in a game.

UNDATED (AP) — Cincinnati held on to the No. 2 ranking by just four points over No. 3 Alabama in The Associated Press college football poll, and Oregon passed Ohio State to move up to No. 5. Georgia is a unanimous No. 1 for the fifth straight week in the Top 25 presented by Regions Bank, but the teams most-closely chasing the Bulldogs are more tightly packed after those that played this past weekend won close games. The Bearcats received 1,440 points from the media panel and the Crimson Tide had 1,336. Oklahoma, which had an open date, stayed at No. 4. Oregon jumped Ohio State at No. 6, taking advantage of Michigan State’s first loss of the season.

UNDATED (AP) — Sam Pittman and Arkansas became bowl eligible the old-fashioned way — by earning their sixth win of the season. The Razorbacks went 3-7 last season but were still set to play in the Texas Bowl during a postseason significantly impacted by the pandemic. That game ended up being canceled because of positive COVID-19 tests within TCU’s program. That was Pittman’s first year at the helm at Arkansas. His second began with four straight wins, including victories over Texas and Texas A&M, but a three-game losing streak meant bowl eligibility wasn’t guaranteed, given how tough the team’s SEC schedule is. The Razorbacks wrapped up win No. 6 by beating Mississippi State 31-28 on Saturday. There are now 49 teams that are bowl eligible.
