India reported 22,752 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total so far to 7,42,417, government data shows. The number of death has risen to 20,642 with 482 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 4,56,831 have recovered and the recovery rate is 61.53 per cent.
The World Health Organisation or WHO has said it would study fresh evidence on airborne transmission of the coronavirus, after an international group of scientists concluded it could spread far beyond two metres.
India now trails only the United States and Brazil in the number of COVID-19 cases and it has recorded eight times as many cases as China, where the virus was first identified in late 2019.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren tweeted he is isolating himself as a safety measure after two of his colleagues tested positive for the highly infectious coronavirus. “My fellow minister of the cabinet Mr Mithilesh Thakur ji and our party’s MLA Mr Mathura Mahato ji have been found infected with coronavirus,” Mr Soren tweeted.
“Both are being treated in a government hospital. As a precaution, I will also be in self-isolation for the next few days from today. But I will continue to perform every important work,” the Chief Minister tweeted in Hindi.

Three new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Mumbai’s slum colony of Dharavi, taking the tally to 2,338 on Wednesday, the city civic body said.
On Tuesday, just one COVID-19 patient was found in Dharavi, once a hotspot which has seen a dramatic improvement in the coronavirus situation.
With the addition of three new COVID-19 cases, the tally in Dharavi has gone up to 2,338, a senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.
The civic body has, however, stopped disclosing the number of deaths, if any, in the slum-dominated area since the past few days, reported news agency PTI.
A total of 749 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Bihar, informed the State Health Department.
With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state reaches 13,274, including 9,338 recovered cases said the health department, reported news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, on the orders of District Magistrate, Patna will remain under lockdown from July 10 to July 16, in view of the CVOID-19 pandemic

Only 500 pilgrims to be permitted daily for Amarnath Yatra amid pandemic: Officials
The annual Amarnath Yatra in the Himalayas will be conducted in a staggered manner and not more than 500 pilgrims will be allowed to visit the sacred cave shrine of Lord Shiva daily due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials said.
The issue of pilgrimages to the Amarnath and Vaishnodevi shrines, both located in Jammu and Kashmir, was discussed at a high-level meeting attended by Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Jitendra Singh and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
The Amarnath Yatra is likely to commence on July 21.

Asserting that India was at the forefront of the ongoing international efforts to defeat the coronavirus, President Ram Nath Kovind said enhancing global cooperation to effectively tackle the pandemic was the need of the hour.

Assam has over 13,000 COVID-19 cases: Minister
Assam reported five more COVID-19 deaths today, taking the state’s death count due to the disease to 21 while the total number of cases stood at 13,336, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Four patients died at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and one at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH), he said.
All the four men who died at GMCH were aged above 60, with the oldest being 75. They were on invasive ventilation and had severe pneumonia, urosepsis and septic shock, the minister added.

The School Education Department, Government of Rajasthan, informed that private schools have been directed not to charge fees till schools reopen. On April 9, the state government had directed private schools not take an advance fee for three months (till June 30), in view of COVID-19 pandemic, reports ANI.

Out of 1,378 samples tested for COVID-19, 24 people have tested positive in the state, said Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday. Delhi recorded 2,008 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.02 lakh, while the death count from the disease mounted to 3,165, authorities said.
Fifty fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi health department bulletin.
On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947, till date.
However, in the last few days, the number of fresh cases have oscillated, not showing a particular trend in figures.
The number of cases reported from June 28-July 6 are – June 28 (2,889), June 29 (2,084), June 30 (2,199) and July 1 (2,442), July 2 (2,373), July 3 (2,520), July 4 (2,505), July 5 (2,244) and July 6 (1,379), with steady rise in death figures.
The death count from COVID-19 in Delhi stood at 3,115 on Monday.
