Bantwal, Jun 27: In a fast motion, police arrested the accused who stabbed a girl with a knife at Neralakatte junction of Netlamudnooru village on Monday June 27.

The deceased lady, Shakuntala (35), was a resident of Ananthadi Devinagara and spouse of Sanjeeva.

Shakuntala was operating a canteen at Puttur and was on her approach in the direction of Puttur on Monday afternoon on her two-wheeler when the incident happened.

The police arrested and took the accused youth into custody. The accused has been recognized as Sridhar, an auto driver and a resident of Puttur.

Sridhar was engaged in a dialog with the girl leading to a verbal spat between the 2 when Sridhar fished out a knife and stabbed Shakuntala fiercely. Sridhar fled the scene and moved in the direction of Puttur after the incident.

At the time of the incidence of the incident, a driver of a personal automobile captured the incident on his cell phone and transferred it to the police.

In the meantime, Shakuntala who was severely injured was rushed to the federal government hospital by the locals, however she died on the way in which to the hospital.

It is claimed that Sridhar had threatened Shakuntala earlier too and the girl had filed a grievance with the Vittal police on this regard. The police had warned Sridhar.

Shakuntala’s husband Sanjeeva reportedly instructed the police that it was out of grudge that Sridhar had killed his spouse.

The accused Sridhar has been taken into police custody and has been subjected to interrogation.

A police workforce led by inspector H E Nagaraj visited the spot of the incident.
