Digitalization doesn’t solely have an effect on personal life and work, but in addition influences and modifications the complete healthcare sector. Sustainable progress in medical expertise to protect well being would require elevated collaboration of residents, physicians, and researchers in future. To push this transformation course of, the KIT Center of Health Technologies (KITHealthTech) has now been established at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Its mission consists in growing from the society’s perspective digital and technological options for medical merchandise. Work will concentrate on the society’s wants and profit.
Thanks to e-health, telemedicine, and wearables, the purpose of care will more and more shift from common practitioners and hospitals to sufferers at house. This would require new, digital, and progressive applied sciences and infrastructures. The new KIT Center of Health Technologies swimming pools the work of greater than 150 scientists from a wide range of disciplines, together with medical engineering, additive manufacture, robotics, life sciences, and information sciences. Their objective is to speed up analysis on this space.
With this new Center, we reply to the wants of the inhabitants and healthcare sector. Continuous change in e.g. digitalization or robotics ends in many new alternatives for us. The huge competencies of our researchers assist overcome the borders of disciplines and form, develop, and set up tomorrow’s healthcare.”
Professor Holger Hanselka, President of KIT
“The wide range of expertise and numerous activities at KIT are the basis for coordinated health technologies research,” says Professor Oliver Kraft, KIT’s Vice President Research. “In particular, we plan to combine fundamental research in various areas with applications in health technologies. In this way, we address the needs of an aging society and additionally offer modern and new research-based study programs.”
Interdisciplinary cooperation pushes analysis
“To develop successful digital and technological solutions for future global challenges in the healthcare sector, we will need comprehensive technological and social competencies. We cooperate closely with hospital networks, health insurance companies, and licensing authorities,” says Professor Andrea Robitzki, the Division Head chargeable for the KIT Center of Health Technologies. “It is our vision that citizens in the region of Karlsruhe directly interact with physicians, hospitals, and other players in the healthcare sector. In this way, we want to create a unique ecosystem.”
Researchers from practically all Centers, Divisions, and Departments of KIT contribute their interdisciplinary experience to 3 thematic fields: Technology for precision medication, holistic and individualized affected person care, and digital well being. Work covers humanoid robotics, exoskeletons, accelerator applied sciences for radiation prognosis techniques, biomaterials, precision medication for personalised remedy, cybersecurity for the safety of well being information, and digital well being.
