MY IRISH ANCESTORS were treated poorly upon their arrival to America. We got over it. Actually toughened up and brawled our way to acceptance. Hence the nickname Fighting Irish for Notre Dame. Is that nickname going to be leaving us, too, in our new soft America? Difficult to believe that we’ve gone from World War II’s Greatest Generation that saved the world to a new fragile and delicate country. It’s not my America. If the Fighting Irish nickname is eliminated, I think I’ll give up watching sports altogether.
