The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will carry out one other orbital discount manoeuvre on August 14. The manoeuvre will reportedly be carried out between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm on Monday to deliver the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft nearer to the Moon’s floor.

Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) will carry out one other orbital reduction manoeuvre on August 14. The manoeuvre will reportedly be carried out between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm on Monday to deliver the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft nearer to the lunar surface .

Notably, the earlier orbital discount was performed on August 9. After this manoeuvre, the spacecraft’s orbit was lowered to 174 km x 1,437 km. Chandrayaan-3 entered into the lunar orbit on August 5. The subsequent de-orbiting manoeuvre might be carried out on August 16.

Chandrayaan-3 is slated to make a touchdown on the moon on August 23-24. Prior to the Chandrayaan-3 touchdown date on the moon, the lander is predicted to bear a “deboost” (the method of slowing down).

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2. It goals to reveal end-to-end functionality in secure touchdown and roving on the lunar floor. Chandrayaan-3 includes an indigenous propulsion module, a lander module and a rover to develop and reveal new applied sciences required for inter-planetary missions.

Last week, ISRO chief S Somanath exuded confidence that Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander would make a gentle touchdown on the Moon’s floor on August 23. Somanath acknowledged that even when all of the sensors or engines of Chandrayaan-3 fail, the lander can have a correct landing on the lunar floor.

During a chat on “Chandrayaan-3: Bharat’s Pride Space Mission’, hosted by the non-profit organisation Disha Bharat, Somanath said that the lander “Vikram’ has been made in a fashion that it might be capable to deal with failures.

If every little thing fails, if all of the sensors fail, nothing works, nonetheless it (Vikram) will make a touchdown. That’s the way it has been designed — supplied that the propulsion system works properly,” the ISRO chief acknowledged.

Chandrayaan- 3 was launched on July 14.
