The Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum have reopened, after closing in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The museums will feature an assortment of outdoor entertainment, while indoor experiences are limited as the majority of exhibits remain closed.

The Canadian War Museum will feature outdoor live military vehicle demonstrations, while the Canadian Museum of History will offer dance performances and activities from Indigenous Experiences.

Capacity indoors is limited to 50 people per two-hour block of time. Self-guided activities and architectural tours will be available at both museums.

The Canadian Museum of History is also offering a guided tour through its Grand Hall. Meanwhile, the Canadian War Museum is holding a tour through the LeBreton Gallery.

General admission for the season is also free of charge. Chantel Amyot, Director of Exhibitions and Visitor Experience at the Canadian Museum of History, thinks this is a good step to give residents some positivity.

“We decided it would be a free offering since it is a partial opening,” Amyot explains. “People really need something that they really enjoy and it’s sort of a gift to Canadians.”

According to a news release from the museums, those who don’t book their slot ahead of time will still have access to the self-guided outdoor activities and can sign up for a tour or a dance or vehicle demonstration, if time permits.

Both museums are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays.
