If you’re heading to downtown Windsor to take advantage of the planned street closures, there will be an element or two missing.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) announced on Friday that the live entertainment scheduled for the weekend will be postponed until a later date, out of concern for visitors and performers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brian Yeomans, chairman of the DWBIA, said the logistics are not currently there to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We’re incredibly disappointed to have to postpone these events,” said Yeomans. “The requirements of the regulation for Stage 2 make it impractical to proceed. We know these talented artists have worked hard to prepare and are grateful for the opportunity to work in these trying times. We look forward to their participation at a later date.”

Yeomans said the decision was made after consultation with local and provincial health officials

This weekend marks the second time this summer that downtown streets will be closed to vehicular traffic, to allow restaurants and bars to extend outdoor seating, as well as permit pedestrians and cyclists to easily navigate the area.

Street closures began at 5 p.m. Friday and will be on through Sunday evening. The closures affect most of Ouellette Avenue from Riverside Drive to Wyandotte Street, plus the portion of University Avenue between Pelissier Street and Goyeau Street.
