NEW DELHI (AP) — The Indian authorities on Thursday vowed to discover “all legal options” after a Qatari court docket handed dying sentences to eight Indian workers of a Qatari firm on spying prices.

According to Indian media studies, the eight males are retired Indian navy officers who labored for the consulting firm Al Dahra, advising the Qatari authorities on the acquisition of submarines.

India’s External Affairs Ministry mentioned in an announcement it was awaiting the detailed judgment within the case.

“We are in touch with the family members and the legal team, and we are exploring all legal options,” it mentioned. “We attach high importance to this case and have been following it closely. We will continue to extend all consular and legal assistance. We will also take up the verdict with Qatari authorities.”

The assertion didn’t present additional particulars.

Qatar’s authorities declined to instantly touch upon the sentences.

Qatari authorities offered New Delhi consular entry to the eight Indian nationals throughout their trial.

Millions of Indians stay and work within the Gulf, a lot of them as semi-skilled or unskilled employees. They represent an essential supply of revenue for India and contribute to the success of Gulf economies.
