Govt declares Mahaparinirvan Din a public vacation in Mumbai | Mumbai News

The state authorities has declared the dying anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, which is noticed as Mahaparinirvan Din on December 6, a public vacation in Mumbai.

All authorities and non-government workplaces, together with colleges and faculties in Mumbai metropolis and suburbs will stay closed on Wednesday, in keeping with a round issued by the final administration division.

The round additionally mentions that state authorities prior to now has declared two days — Anant Chaturdashi and Dahi Handi, as native vacation for Mumbai metropolis and suburbs from 1996 and 2007, respectively. From 2023, Mahaparinirwan Divas is added to the record of native vacation.

The transfer comes a day after Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president and MLA Varsha Gaikwad wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, requesting him to declare December 6 as public vacation.
