PATIALA: Punjab health and family welfare and labour minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that providing better education and health services in the state, was one of the top priorities of the Punjab Government.
He also inaugurated the construction work of new block of Government Model Senior Secondary School Civil Lines and honored 14 students of the district who scored 98 Percent or above marks in Class XII by giving a reward of Rs 5,100 each on behalf of state government.
Sidhu said that although the educational institutions are currently closed due to coronavirus but the state government has decided to provide free education to the students till Class XII. He said that this year the government schools in the state have got better results where the pass percentage was recorded as 94.32 percentages which is due to the education department and hard-working teachers.
He said smartphones were being distributed to the Class XII students of government schools under ‘Punjab Smart Connect Scheme‘ and with this, students from poor families will now be able to get online education in the era of Covid-19.
He said the under government’s campaign to make the schools of the state up-to-date in all respects, six new rooms would be constructed at Civil Lines School at a cost of Rs 50 Lakh, which will complete the school in to smart classrooms according to the number of students. He expressed happiness over the strength of 4235 students in this school.
While maintaining that Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, set up by Capt. Amarinder Singh, would give a major boost to sports culture by imparting education in the fields of sports science, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching in the state, he dedicated a library building of Prof. Gursewak Singh Govt College of Physical Education, a Constituent college of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. HE also inaugurated the renovation work of Multipurpose Gymnasium Hall at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh under the infrastructure being jointly developed for the students of Punjab Sports University and Physical Education College and said that this gymnasium hall would be ready by next three months and it would help the students of Punjab Sports University in meeting their educational and sports related needs as well as the students of Physical Education College. There will also be basic facilities for other sports including yoga.
