  • The Google Pixel 5 battery size could be much larger than the battery of the Pixel 4, negating earlier rumors.
  • It could also have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
  • It might have a larger display than the Pixel 4a, too.

Google’s Pixel 5 may be more of a longevity champion than some rumors suggest.

Android Central sources claim the new top-range smartphone will have a “considerably” larger battery than what we saw in the Pixel 4. Those rumors of a modest 3,080mAh power pack are “entirely false,” says the report. The tipsters didn’t say what the Google Pixel 5 battery capacity would be, but it’s implied that the Pixel 4’s poor battery life won’t carry over to its successor.

The leak also sheds more light on the Pixel 5’s potential performance. While the Snapdragon 765G has been rumored for a while, the new sources also said the Pixel 5 would ship with 8GB of RAM (versus 6GB in the Pixel 4a) along with 128GB of storage. It would have a clear edge over its lower-end counterpart when it comes to RAM, then, even if it wouldn’t compete with the 12GB or more found in the latest flagships.

You might also see a larger 6-inch display versus the 5.8-inch screen reported before (comparable with the Pixel 4a). However, it wouldn’t be as big as the 6.2-inch panel believed to be coming to the Pixel 4a 5G. An expected 90Hz refresh rate would give it a performance advantage over the 60Hz Pixel 4a.

It’s still not certain when the Pixel 5 would ship, or how much it would cost. Android Central suggested it might arrive as soon as September 30. The cost might be the most important factor in the Pixel 5’s appeal — it could be alluring if it’s not much more expensive than the $499 Pixel 4a 5G. It may have a tougher time, though, if the price gets too close to higher-end phones.
