FARGO — The first students are entering North Dakota State University’s dining halls, and they are greeted with new technology to help social distancing.
The NDSU dining app will show students which halls are at capacity, so they know where to eat.
The halls have extra cleaning breaks, one way traffic, and extended takeout options.
Two of the three dining halls are already open for students and families moving to campus. All dining halls will be open starting Aug. 22.
“Actually very normal if that could possibly make sense… it feels very normal. And they seem just glad to be here it doesn’t seem like anything is missing a beat,” said Katie Tarter, director of NDSU Dining Services.
The school is also ready to feed any quarantined student.
If a student has to quarantine on campus, dining will deliver three meals once per day during the week and nine meals on Fridays. The school asks students if they have a refrigerator or microwave to plan their meals accordingly and is committed to following the students’ dietary restrictions.Students would get both full meals and snacks.
NDSU is following all North Dakota’s Smart Restart guidelines for restaurants in their dining halls. If NDSU leaders decide to suspend in-person instruction at any point, dining can continue if allowed by the state’s overall risk level.
