  • Chennai Super Kings will be without Suresh Raina in IPL 2020
  • Raina has decided to skip the Indian Premier League season 13 due to personal reasons
  • Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family: CSK owner N Srinivasan

Chennai Super Kings owner N Srinivasan has assured that team captain MS Dhoni is not too worried about losing Suresh Raina for IPL 2020.

CSK will have to play the 13th season of the IPL without their vice-captain Suresh Raina as he went back home due to personal reasons. But MS Dhoni has assured team owner Srinivasan that they don’t have to worry.

“I spoke to MS (Dhoni) and he has assured me that even if the numbers go up, there was nothing to worry. He spoke to the players through a zoom call and asked them to remain safe. You really don’t know who is a passive carrier,” Srinivasan told Outlook.

“Cricketers are like prima donnas … like the temperamental actors of the olden days. Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family and all seniors players have learnt to co-exist.

“My thinking is that if you are reluctant or not happy, go back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head,” Srinivasan said.

Dhoni remains unfazed by anything, says Srinivasan

Srinivasan though, is completely behind his captain Dhoni, who is “unfazed by anything”.

“I have got a solid captain. Dhoni is simply unfazed by anything. That is giving everyone in the team a lot of confidence,” Srinivasan said.

Srinivasan also said that Raina’s exit from the team will be an opportunity for the other players in the team to shine. Particularly for players like Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“He is an outstanding batsman and will get a chance now. Ruturaj can become the star of the show, who knows?

“The season has not begun yet and Raina will certainly realise what he is missing and certainly all the money (a salary of 11 crores per season) he is going to lose,” the CSK boss said.
