Jaipur: Sportspersons belonging to 20 sports disciplines are cheering for the Union government’s decision to include their sports under the category for recruitment of meritorious sportspersons. On September 1, 2020, undersecretary of the Government of India (GoI) of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued an order adding 20 more sports disciplines in the category of the list of games for recruitment of meritorious sportspersons to any post in Group- C in ministries and departments of GoI.
The earlier order dated October 3, 2013, had 43 sports disciplines under this category which has now been increased to 63 games. The new games included in the list include cycle polo, equestrian sports, Baseball, Rugby, Basket Ball, Para sports, Deaf sports, Mallakhambh, Tug of war etc.
“It is a welcome move by the union government which has included more sports in this list. Earlier polo was included but not cycle polo. Now those playing cycle polo and equestrian sports would also be considered for employment. These are the real people who needed such support. We are thankful that advice and deliberation with sports ministry and other departments have fructified.” Raghuvendra Singh Dundlod National President of Cycle Polo Association of India said.
The list specifically mentions that those participating in Para games at Asian Game and Para Olympics would also be eligible for recruitment for Group-C posts. “This is a welcome move that after giving a respectable name to differently-abled as ‘Divyang’, the government is opening up opportunities for a para sportsperson in jobs also. It will encourage many such young people to take sports as a career and then aim for government jobs.” Balendu Singh a Para Olympian shooter said.
