Report: WNBA proposal includes full salaries for ’20

An updated proposal from WNBA owners for the 2020 season includes full salaries for a 22-game regular season, ESPN reported Friday.

The first WNBA proposal went to players on June 4 and offered players 60 percent of their full salaries.

A vote from WNBA players is scheduled for the weekend and a formal agreement could be in place by Monday, per ESPN.

Players in the NBA already have taken a pay cut and NHL players agreed to a reduction in salary, as did Major League Soccer players.

The WNBA season was scheduled to begin May 15 but was delayed indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic. Training camps have not yet begun and what would have been a 36-game regular season is being reduced dramatically.

As part of the proposal, players would begin the 2020 season on July 24 and all games would take place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Players who have children can bring them and a caregiver to their hotel.

A provision exists allowing players medically certified as “high risk” if they contract the coronavirus to opt out of the ‘20 season without forfeiting their salary.
