LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – While many people are eager to return to their normal fall sports schedule, others may be worried about the upcoming sports seasons and the possible spread of the coronavirus.
The WIAA has changed some sports seasons, like football, which will be playing a shortened season.
Other sports, such as cross country, may have fewer changes because people are naturally distanced and their sport is outside.
But when it comes to participation and overall safety, personal responsibility will be an important factor as well.
“I think that each sport, each part of the sport, each organization and group should come to these decisions on their own,” says Dr. David Soma, a Pediatric Sports Medicine doctor at Mayo Clinic.
According to the WIAA schools need to declare if they would participate in fall or an alternative fall season in the spring.
