PHOENIX (AP) — David Muir, anchor of “ABC World News Tonight,” would be the subsequent recipient of Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, the college introduced Tuesday.

The managing editor of the nightly newscast, Muir will settle for the award in February at a luncheon in downtown Phoenix.

This would be the fortieth yr the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has given out the accolade.

The honor is called for the legendary CBS news broadcaster, who lined the tumult of the Nineteen Sixties and Seventies, from the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. within the U.S., to the worldwide crises of the Vietnam War and the Iranian hostage disaster.

To obtain an award in Cronkite’s title “is not only deeply humbling, it’s a call for us to live up to those standards especially when they’re needed most,” Muir stated in an announcement.

Muir, who can be co-anchor of ABC’s “20/20,” was a reporter and anchor at TV stations in Boston and Syracuse, New York, previous to becoming a member of the community. At ABC, he has carried out unique interviews with a number of world leaders together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv final yr.

Past honorees of the Cronkite Award embrace Bob Woodward, Christiane Amanpour and Gayle King.
