Well, this might be a downer for all the coffee-loving men reading this, but new research states that drinking a few cups of coffee daily might just be the key to weight loss for women. Yes, coffee in moderation can actually help women shed body and abdominal fat.

This is the impact of drinking coffee on your body fat percentage
The American Center for Disease Control (CDC) recently organised the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey where they examined the impact of drinking coffee on both total body fat percentage and abdominal or ‘trunk’ fat (adiposity).

After closely examining the impact of caffeine on body fat in both men and women, it was found that coffee reacted to their body’s ability to burn fat differently.

Coffee and its antioxidants can keep premature ageing at bay.

After the analysis, it was found that the women of all ages who drank two to three cups of coffee per day reported a drop in total body fat percentage by 2.8%.

Interestingly, the findings were consistent even if the coffee consumed was caffeinated or decaffeinated, was consumed by smokers and non-smokers, and even those suffering from chronic diseases when compared to those in good health.

On the other hand, the impact of drinking coffee on body fat percentage was significantly less in men. The findings of the survey. which were published in The Journal of Nutrition, state men aged 20 – 44 who drank two or three cups per day had only 1.3% less total fat and 1.8% less trunk fat than those who did not consume coffee at all. Well, that’s a bummer for the male species!

But, how is this possible?Dr Lee Smith, a senior study author from Anglia Ruskin University stated, “Our research suggests that there may be bioactive compounds in coffee other than caffeine that regulate weight and which could potentially be used as anti-obesity compounds.”

So, it’s the specific compounds in coffee that may have anti-obesity properties.
The research actually found that women aged 20 – 44 who drank two or three cups of coffee per day had the lowest levels of adiposity. It was actually 3.4% lower than people who did not consume coffee.

The takeawayLooking at the statistics, it’s pretty clear that women have an advantage over men when it comes to the phenomenal weight loss promise this hot delicacy offers.

Though before you pour yourself a steaming cup, remember to go easy on the sugar.
