An aide to Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is recovering after struggling an assault in Washington, D.C.

“This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C.,” Paul stated in a press release. Paul stated a suspect had been arrested, and requested for prayers for the aide to see a speedy and full restoration.

The staffer was stabbed a number of instances, and the accidents had been life threatening, based on the Metropolitan Police Department.

He declined to determine the aide, asking as a substitute for privateness so “everyone can focus on healing and recovery.”

The incident comes after Congress moved earlier this 12 months to overturn a brand new prison code — the product of a years-long evaluation that concerned varied stakeholders within the prison justice system — for the Washington, D.C., space. Republicans argued — and President Biden cited as a priority — that the brand new code may very well be perceived as too gentle on crime at a time when charges of homicides and automobile thefts are rising in D.C., according to police data.

On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee will hold its first in a sequence of hearings on Washington, D.C., with a deal with crime, security and metropolis administration. Witnesses at Wednesday’s listening to embrace D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson in addition to Charles Allen, one other councilmember, and Greggory Pemberton, the chairman of the D.C. Police Union.
