Hyderabad: Sharp Corporation on Wednesday said they have developed an air purifying technology which is capable of reducing the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the air through aerosol particles. The Japanese-based electronics manufacturer in a press release said that its Plasmacluster technology, when exposed to SARS-CoV-2, effectively reduces airborne virus by more than 90 per cent.

According to Sharp Corporation, the Plasmacluster Technology is a unique method that works to suppress the activity of bacteria and viruses by breaking down their proteins on their surface by a chemical reaction. Researchers demonstrated inhibitory effect on the airborne SARS-CoV-2 through the air purification technology, it said.

The demonstration of the Plasmacluster technology was taken up by researchers of National Research Center for the Control and Prevention of Infectious Diseases/Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, Japanese Society for Virology, Department of Microbiology, Shimane University, Japanese Society for Virology and Nagasaki University.
