Sadak 2 might be one of the biggest projects releasing on a digital platform due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the film has already faced its share of roadblocks and controversy. Owing to Mahesh Bhatt’s name getting popped up in the Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case, fans of SSR have began an online trend to boycott Sadak 2 in support of the late actor. This has left Alia Bhatt and the remaining cast and crew at the receiving end of online trolling and hate. Many have even started a petition against all the star kids including Alia. This is because Alia was launched by Karan Johar, who is under the scanner in Sushant’s case.
On the brighter side, Alia is among the 819 people who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Those who accept the membership will have voting privileges at the 93rd Academy Awards which will be held on April 25, 2021. Alia took to Instagram to share how “honoured and humbled” she is on getting the invitation. “I thank The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for inviting me to be a member of the Academy. I feel at once honoured and humbled,” Alia wrote. She further added, “There is also a deep satisfaction in seeing that the voice of Indian cinema is finding a very well deserved platform on the world stage. Every year, more actors, filmmakers and technicians from India are recognized by the Academy and Indian cinema continues to reach the hearts and homes of people all over the world.” Ali also wrote, “She concluded, “In a world that can be unsure and fragmented, at a time when the very social media that is meant to connect people ends up dividing them, movies are the glue that binds us.”
Alia Bhatt also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra in her kitty. Brahmastra also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy. The big-budget action fantasy film is backed by Dharma Productions. Brahmastra is the part one of the trilogy franchise which is being made in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. It was previously set to release on August 2019. It got postponed to Christmas 2019, and further to December 2020. Due to the spread of coronavirus, it is unsure whether Brahmastra will now release on its stipulated schedule.
