Amitabh’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan has also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“I have tested Covid positive. Shifted to Hospital. Family and staff undergone tests, results awaited. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested,” Amitabh Bachchan said in a tweet.

In another tweet, Abhishek wrote, “The BMC has been in touch and we are complying with them.”
Amitabh also took to Instagram to post a photo of himself from the hospital, along with a message asking anyone who has come in touch with him to get tested.
Doctors have confirmed to India Today that Amitabh Bachchan was symptomatic and was self-isolating at home before being taken to the Nanavati hospital on Saturday evening.
While the senior actor had been staying at home ever since the lockdown began on March 25, he had recently shot promotional content for the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati and other projects at his home and hence had contact with the production crew who came to his house.
Bachchan’s doctors at Nanavati hospital informed India Today Television that he had taken a Covid-19 test after complaining of breathlessness for the past few days. His test results came in on Saturday evening, but his doctors refrained from making an announcement as the megastar himself wanted to inform his followers of the same. Doctors also said that Nanavati hospital will not give out a health bulletin on the superstar, the Bachchan family will update people on the same.
People from across walks of life responded to Bachchan’s tweet and wished him a speedy recovery.
“Prayers sir !! Sending you lots of love and strength,” wrote actor Rajkummar Rao on Twitter. His co-star in films like Baghban, Boman Irani also wrote, “You’re a fighter Sir. Get well soon.”
“Wishing you a speedy recovery, Sir. You have seen adversity and come up trumps every time. This too shall pass. All the very best,” wrote actor Rahul Bose.
Amitabh Bachchan, one of the world’s most famous filmstars, happens to be the second superstar to contract the coronavirus. Hollywood’s Tom Hanks along with his wife had earlier tested positive and recovered after the mandatory quarantine.
Nanavati Hospital is located in Mumbai’s Ville Parle, which is very close to the actor’s residence in Juhu area of the city.
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan wrote on Twitter that he has been trying to call Nanavati hospital, but has received no response, “Dear Amitabh ji, I join the whole nation in wishing you a quick recovery! After all, you are the idol of millions in this country, an iconic superstar! We will all take good care of you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!,” Harsh Vardhan wrote on Twitter.”
Amitabh Bachchan, 77, had survived a near-fatal accident on the sets of Manmohan Desai’s Coolie in 1982. He has lived with a compromised liver since then, on account of discipline. He works out regularly and follows a strict dietary regime.
Big B was last seen in Shoojit Sircar’s comedy-drama Gulabo Sitabo alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. The film was initially going to be released in theatres, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
