IRON MOUNTAIN — Anthony M. Tatangelo (Tony), 39, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Anthony was born on Aug. 5, 1981, in Rochester, Mich., to Mario and Lori Tatangelo.
He attended Our Lady of the Lakes in Waterford, Mich. and Clarkston High School, where he graduated in 1999.
Tony moved to the Upper Peninsula to attend college at Northern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and met his wife, Aimee.
He enjoyed the outdoors and all that the U.P. provided for his passions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tony also enjoyed downhill skiing and taught lessons at several locations in lower Michigan as well as out west. He loved biking with his family and friends and was recently training for a long distance trip.
Nothing made Tony happier than sharing these passions with his two children, Dominic and Sierra; teaching them to ride their bikes without training wheels, downhill ski, snowshoe, cross country ski, hunt, and fish. He proudly shared videos of them doing these activities any chance he could.
Tony was a loving son, brother, husband, father, nephew, cousin, and friend. His talents were endless; he was the best cook, an amazing woodworker, a beloved teacher, a coach of several sports, and most recently a business owner. Tony had a way of making everything fun, whether it was learning in the classroom by cooking pancakes, gathering friends together for a Monopoly League Night, or making an outdoor theater for his kids. There wasn’t a challenge that Tony wouldn’t take on.
Opening U.P. Sport & Spoke was a thrilling adventure for him. The support from the local community and entire biking community for the store has been incredible. Tony talked about the friendships he formed at the shop, enjoyed the bike rides he shared with many (including Taco Tuesday rides), and loved the new family he formed with his coworkers and their families.
His friends and family will tell you he was the first person you would call for help, a bear hug, or if you just needed a laugh. He could fix anything; a superhero to his family, especially his two children. If you met Tony, you loved Tony.
Tony is survived by his wife Aimee; his two children, Dominic and Sierra; his parents, Mario and Lori (Tullio) Tatangelo; brothers, Joseph Tatangelo, Stephen Tatangelo. Steve and Debby Cavalieri, Vince (Nikki), Chris, Anthony (Elise), Cole, and Lucas Cavalieri. Many uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, the entire biking community, and his devoted friend, Andy Cabrera.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Larry and Beverly (Sue) Tullio and paternal grandparents, Pasquale and Lea (Rea) Tatangelo.
Family will greet friends on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 to 10:45 am. at the City Park Maki Pavilion. Private service to follow.
In lieu of flowers a scholarship fund will be established for Dominic and Sierra. Memorials may be directed to Incredible Bank 101 West B Street, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
