Apple has quietly extended the repair program for the AirPods Pro from two years to three years, as per a report by CultofMac. The repair program covers the hardware issues with the device that can cause crackling and static sounds.
With an extra year added to the program, AirPods Pro users will get free replacements if they pass an Apple inspection as to be eligible for the repair program. Also, if the problem is in only one of the earbuds, Apple would replace only that one, free of charge. The repair program is only meant for the AirPods Pro and not AirPods or AirPods Max.
As per Apple, the issue of the crackling sounds has only affected the AirPods Pro units that were manufactured before October 2020. The issues that may crop up with the AirPods Pro could include (one or more)
“Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise”
If you have experienced any of the above mentioned issues with the AirPods, you can contact Apple and get the faulty units returned.
If you opt for Carry-in Repair, as per which you can take the unit to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make sure you have proof of purchase or original AirPods box and the charging case along with your original AirPods. The serial number of the product would also be required which can be found on the charging case or on the underside of the lid.
