JAMMU: An Army officer and a jawan were killed in a mine explosion near a forward post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district late Saturday.
Confirming the two fatalities, Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said, “During an area domination patrol along the LoC in Nowshera’s Lam sector, a mine blast occurred wherein two soldiers suffered critical injuries and later succumbed.”

The deceased were identified as Lt Rishi Kumar, a resident of Bihar’s Begusarai and Sepoy Manjit Singh from Sirvewala in Punjab’s Bathinda district. Another soldier, who suffered injuries in the blast, was evacuated and is under treatment, Lt Col Anand added.
“Lt Rishi Kumar and Sepoy Manjit were brave and extremely committed to the profession of soldiering and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in the line of active duty,” the Army spokesperson said.
