Arizona State University graduates, the tech giants are calling!
In a recent survey by the talent company SHL, ASU ranked No. 6 out of 10 public and private universities in the U.S. in technology-sector hires, with 8,320 graduates now working at some of the largest tech companies across the country, including Amazon and Apple. ASU outranked Carnegie Mellon University; Georgia Institute of Technology; University of California, Los Angeles; and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Among the public universities on the list, ASU ranked No. 4. — outperforming Pennsylvania State University, University Park; Texas A&M University, College Station; and Purdue University, West Lafayette.
ASU ranked No. 3 on Amazon’s list, employing 1,711 graduates, and besting the University of California, Berkeley. As for Apple, the SHL survey ranked ASU No. 6, surpassing the University of California, Davis and University of California, San Diego. Apple employs 813 ASU graduates.
“It’s a testament to ASU’s commitment to excellence to see our talented graduates thriving and impacting a highly competitive industry,” said Mark Searle, executive vice president and university provost. “Through our hands-on learning and unique partnerships with industry-leading technology companies, ASU is preparing students to succeed in future tech careers.”
The future looks promising too. Computer and information technology jobs are projected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029 — faster than the national average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS estimates that the median annual salary in this field is more than $88,000.
ASU offers a number of technology-related degrees, many through ASU Online, ranging from graphics to engineering to information technology. This fall, ASU added a wide range of new programs, including data science and technological leadership — adding to the university’s more than 800 fully accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
ASU also supports Sun Devils as they search for their dream job, offering career and internship advising through ASU’s Career and Professional Development Services, and access to career fairs through Handshake, ASU’s free recruiting platform. Free services are also available to alumni through Alumni Career and Professional Development Services.
