Edtech startup Avishkaar has roped in Klay‘s former top executive and serial entrepreneur Pooja Goyal as cofounder and chief operating officer at the firm.
Goyal, who joins Avishkaar after over 20 years of experience in product development with the likes of Adobe, Klay, and PalmSource Inc, will lead operations, sales, marketing and work closely with the leadership team to raise funds and set the company’s strategic direction.
Prior to joining Avishkaar, Goyal built Intellitots – an early childhood education company that was acquired by Klay in an all-cash deal. Her first startup was an enterprise software company in Silicon Valley. An alumna of IIT Delhi and INSEAD, Goyal has built and led cross-functional teams across the globe.
“Pooja’s deep subject matter expertise in activating global consumer sales and market growth is unmatched. Her experience in leading strategy, fundraising and building products and companies will be a key asset to Avishkaar,” said Tarun Bhalla, founder of Avishkaar.
Founded by Bhalla in 2010, Avishkaar offers robotics kits and live online expert classes for children from 5 to 15 years to help develop skills such as computational thinking, problem-solving, logical thinking etc. The company’s robotics kits are already used by more than 100,000 students in over 1100 schools across India including The Shri Ram School, Sanskriti, and DPS among others.
“Avishkaar has done an extraordinary job of arming hundreds of thousands of students in the K-12 segment with skills to be future-ready and provide exposure to next-gen technologies like robotics, IoT, artificial intelligence and drones,” said Goyal. “I am excited to be part of Avishkaar and help bridge the gap between the skills needed for the world of tomorrow and the skills that our schools prepare children for. I look forward to building a worldwide robotics and coding education brand out of India,” she said.
India’s edtech sector has witnessed a significant boost in terms of new users as the Covid-19 pandemic shut schools across the country.
Last month, edtech giant Byju’s acquired WhiteHat Jr, a platform that teaches students to code, for $300 million.
