The Indian cricket team is about to undergo a massive transformation after the T20 World Cup. Captain Virat Kohli will resign to his T20 captaincy and head coach Ravi Shastri will bid adieu to his position. Shastri took up the coaching responsibilities in 2017 and his tenure will end with this World Cup.

BCCI is currently hunting for a new coach. According to the sources, the board is looking forward to appointing an Indian in this position. Apparently, BCCI feels that an Indian can handle the job in a better way, especially in the man-management part.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, a source revealed, “The new head coach will be an Indian. Unlike the IPL, the Indian coaching job is a round-the-year job, and man-management works out a lot better with an Indian coach.”

It was reported that Anil Kumble is being considered for the job but it seems that the option is ruled out now. It was also heard that Rahul Dravid was approached to take up the responsibility but he seemed to have shown interest only in coaching U-19 and India A teams.

Meanwhile, foreigners like Tom Moody and Mahela Jayawardene are also under consideration, said some other sources. BCCI may take a final call by next month.

India is yet to win an ICC trophy under Ravi Shastri. In his tenure, the team qualified for semi-finals in the 2019 World Cup and 2021 Test Championship final but failed to grab the trophies. It has to be seen if Shastri’s dream will be fulfilled with the T20 World Cup 2021.
