Actor Samyuktha Hegde on Saturday said she and her friends were abused and attacked by Congress leader Kavitha Reddy while they were working out in a park in Bengaluru reportedly because of the clothes they were wearing.

However, hours after Hegde put out her allegations on social media, with a video of the purported incident, Reddy hit back saying she did not wish to respond to an actor on “cheap publicity mode”.

In the initial video shared on Twitter just after midnight on Saturday, Hegde claimed she and three of her friends were confronted by Reddy.

“It so happened that we were three girls working out and doing hoola-hoops when an elderly woman came and attacked us. She said we are doing cabaret dancing and even hit one of my friends,” Hegde said in the video

She added that “several men in the park joined Reddy” and “hurled abuses” at the group.

Hegde tagged the Bengaluru Police in her tweet saying: “The future of our country reflects on what we do today. We were abused and ridiculed by Kavitha Reddy at Agara Lake @BlrCityPolice @CPBlr There are witnesses and more video evidence I request you to look into this #thisisWRONG Our side of the story.” She has not filed a police complaint so far.

Hegde later also put out a video on Instagram saying she and her friends were accused of indecent behaviour, of “stripping in public” and were taunted about working out in sportswear.

Hegde further added, “They tried to hit us, defame us and now we are being asked to apologise and leave instead of creating a scene here.”

“We have the video of the woman hitting us and we are showing it to the cops, and the cops are supporting her only,” the actor said in her Instagram video.

Responding to the allegations, Reddy took to Twitter saying: “I did not bother about Vikram Hegde trolls, will I bother about Samyukta Hegde trolls? Aiyo when some CHEAP Publicity Actor does a Video it is clear that she is doing it for Publicity.”

In the late evening BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje weighed in on the controversy saying: “What has happened with @SamyukthaHegde is really unfortunate, there is no place for such moral policing in our socity! Kavitha Reddy, who assaulted & hurled abuses against
