Live magic to watch virtually

Cape Cod Theatre Company/Harwich Junior Theatre will present The Amazing Richard in live-stream shows of magic, music and comedy called “Back to School Magic.” The magician is Richard Archer, a Cape Codder who works with local theaters and has been practicing magic since age 8. His show is designed for ages 3 and up.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 3, THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPT. 6

Dark comedy or musical, live or virtual

Theater is back at Cotuit Center for the Arts this weekend, with one show live before an outdoor audience, and a second set of shows available virtually. Edward Albee’s one-act dark comedy “The Zoo Story,” about two men who meet on a park bench, will be performed outdoors over three weekends with actors Christopher Edwards and Beau Jackett under Steve Ross’ direction.

In a separate production, executive director David Kuehn and other staffers will host live broadcasts of “Virtual Decadence” to celebrate 21 musical productions from the past decade there. Forty-five local actors performed and recorded a total of 65 songs without an audience on the center’s newly configured stage. Different songs and shows will be highlighted each of three nights. After this weekend, the video of “Virtual Decadence” will be available on the center’s Cotuit On Demand YouTube channel.

When: “The Zoo Story” live at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through Sept. 20; “Virtual Decadence” live-streamed at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday (a different show each night)

FRIDAY, SEPT. 4

Axe-throwing returns to Cape Cod Beer

The Haul n’ Axe company will bring axe-throwing competition back to Cape Cod Beer for an outdoor, distanced event. Throwing will happen on a first-come, first-served basis with no lines or gatherings to watch possible. Groups/individuals will be taken directly from their tables to throw.

When: 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinneys Lane, Hyannis

Cost: $10 for five throws (reservations not taken)

G. Love gives concert in Falmouth

G. Love and Friends will perform at the Falmouth Drive-In, with Don McCloskey as the opening act. Garrett “G. Love” Dutton is marking his 27th year as a touring and recording artist, and has released more than 15 records. His music is a blend of Delta blues, hip hop, funk, rock and jazz for a “funky stew of American music.”

When: Doors open at 7 p.m., McCloskey plays at 8 p.m., and G. Love at 9 p.m. Friday

Where: Falmouth Drive-In, 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway (Route 151), East Falmouth

Concerts and new circus show at Payomet

The outdoor ball field at Payomet Performing Arts Center will be filled with music, comedy and circus acts for Labor Day weekend, with patrons driving in and then allowed to sit outside their cars. Comedy will be Jimmy Tingle’s political humor in rescheduled “20/20 Vision: Why Would a Comedian Run For Office?” shows after a past rain-out. Concerts will include two shows each of reggae with Toussaint the Liberator, and guitarist Vance Gilbert offering original music, covers of favorites and comedy. Circus acts are Cirque by the Sea performances of its popular “Sandman” and the new two-person “Flips & Tricks” show.

When: Tingle at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Friday; Toussaint at 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday; Gilbert at 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday; “Flips & Tricks” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday; and “Sandman” at 10:30 a.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Monday
