Big Ten: Fall sports decision won’t be revisited

CHICAGO (WPTA21) – An open letter from the Big Ten conference to its fans, players and coaches makes it clear: The conference won’t be reconsidering its decision to put off fall competitions.

Commissioner Kevin Warren says he and other officials “thoroughly understand and deeply value what sports mean to our student-athletes, their families, our coaches and our fans,” but adds that the process that led to the postponement was “thorough and deliberative.”

In recent days, a movement to restore fall sports has received significant news coverage. It has included a petition signed by prominent athletes in the conference.

Warren’s letter — published just before 6 p.m. — would appear to nix any possibility that the decision will be reversed.

Football and other sports will be played in early 2021 if conditions permit it.

The complete letter is available here.
