LAKE PLACID — After winning two straight games, the Lake Placid boys soccer team fell to the Northern Adirondack Bobcats 3-2 on Wednesday.
The Blue Bombers started out the home game poorly; the team allowed two straight goals to end the first half of play.
“I’m disappointed for them because they got two goals,” Lake Placid head coach Stuart Hemsley said. “We come in at half time and I didn’t think they were two goals better. Then we are chasing the game.”
In the second half, the Blue Bombers found success as Brady Tremblay scored to make the game 2-1. Momentum shifted to Lake Placid.
“I think they were shocked that they were two-nil down,” Hemsley said. “We got the ball wide, we took a cross in and we took a chance. When you pass the ball the space is out wide. That’s the way you get behind teams and score goals. We didn’t do that often enough.”
The momentum was short-lived; the Bobcats scored once again to take the two-goal lead.
With under two minutes left, Lake Placid’s Chris Byrne scored to make the game 3-2. With little time left on the clock, the Bombers fell.
“It was an exciting end to the game,” Hemsley said. “I would have liked it to be exciting for the whole game but we weren’t in the races for a long portion and they had the ball more than we did.”
Hemsley said Northern Adirondack was a bigger and stronger team than Lake Placid and he didn’t want his players to get into a physical battle. He said the team needed to pass more often but instead ran the ball.
“Tonight, the mental side of the game was what I was disappointed in for us,” Hemsley said. “We didn’t play to the plan which was, move the ball. So we ended up in a fight with a bunch of bigger guys and we lost the fight.”
Hemsley said he expects his team to play smarter going forward.
The loss drops Lake Placid to 3-2 on the season. The team is set to play Chazy at home today.
“Thats another one in our section that has beaten us and it looks like we’re gonna have to beaten both of them to win a sectional, AuSable Valley and NAC,” Hemsley said.
