TikTok’s Desi alternative Bolo Indya has raised $300,000 funding from the Eagle Ventures group. This takes the company’s total funding to $500,000 ever since its launch from Eagle 10 Ventures and India Accelerator Group. As announced by the company, the latest funding will help it enhance personalization and recommendation engine, develop language evangelists and strengthen the team, broaden and accelerate product development.
For those unaware, Bolo Indya is a short-video making app that gained popularity after the government blocked China-linked apps in June end including TikTok. The app allows users to create short videos, consumption and knowledge networking in 12 Indian languages. These include Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Haryanvi and Kannada.
In a press statement, the company said that the Bolo Indya app has over 40 monthly active users currently across Google Play Store and OED Appstores. “Over 15 lakh videos are being created on a daily basis on Bolo Indya since June 2020,” it further added.
