BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Police Department are currently looking into alternative non-lethal devices for police officers to use instead of guns.
During a press conference Monday afternoon, the city demonstrated a non-lethal restraint device called Bola Wrap. It’s a tool that has a cord with hooks at the end, which wrap around a person’s waist and knees to stop them from getting away.
The tool allows police officers to restrain resisting subjects from a distance without using deadly force.
The department is looking into the device as an option, but they have not been purchased at this time. They are also looking into using tasers.
