Mr Wangchuk obtained the Magsaysay Award in 2018. His work had impressed the fictional character, Phunsukh Wangdu, performed by actor Aamir Khan within the 2009 movie “3 Idiots”.
He has stated that with out preventive steps, unsustainable industries, tourism and commerce will proceed to mushroom in Ladakh and end the area finally.
“Recent studies from Kashmir University and other research organisations have concluded that glaciers in Leh-Ladakh will finish nearly to their two-thirds if they are not properly taken care of. A study by Kashmir University has found that the glaciers surrounded by highways and human activities are melting at a comparatively faster rate,” Mr Wangchuk stated.
He has additionally requested the federal government to incorporate the area within the sixth schedule of the Constitution, which permits administration of some tribal areas as autonomous entities.
