PELLA—Central College got here away with three extra awards within the College Sports Communicators’ (previously CoSIDA) Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.
           
Central, which had two entries cited final yr, was awarded first place in CSC District 7 for Historical Feature with a tribute to the late president emeritus Kenneth J. Weller with “Weller was the Father of Division III, but so much more.”
           
Also receiving first place within the district for Athlete Profile was a characteristic on Central’s Thomas Spoehr, who embraced a brand new profession as a discus thrower after a promising males’s basketball profession was lower quick by damage in “Setback sparks new dream for Central’s Spoehr.”
           
Central was named runner-up in District 7 within the General Feature/Blog class for a narrative which appeared in Civitas, the school’s alumni journal. The story profiled retired Dutch soccer defensive coordinator Don DeWaard, who transitioned to serving as Pella’s mayor in “The Mayor and the Coach.”

The entries had been judged in a mixed subject that included NCAA Division I, II and III establishments in addition to NAIA faculties and two-year faculties. District 7 consists of faculties and universities in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
