Chennai: The coronavirus pandemic has affected all disciplines of life alike. Therefore, even the sports arena hasn’t been able to find its way smoothly out from the clutches of the virus.

In Chennai, the badminton and tennis courts have reopened after the Tamil Nadu government announced relaxations in the Covid-19 lockdown. However, according to a report by the Times of India, the same is not true for contact sports like football and swimming.

This is because such sports are not like badminton or tennis where the players, by default, are able to maintain some distance between themselves. However, the report suggested that according to a co-founder of a football academy, there could be a soft opening in a while.

Covid-19 situation in Tamil Nadu not pleasant

However, the Covid-19 situation in the state is not very pleasant. The state has the third-highest Covid-19 cases in the country as it has reported more than 4,50,000 cases so far.

Not only that, but Tamil Nadu also has the second-highest position in death toll with close to 8,000 people hving lost their lives in connection with the virus as of now.
