NEW DELHI: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 21- day starvation strike to demand statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion within the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, on Tuesday.

Sonam Wangchuk, an engineer and training reformer, started his protest on March 6, demanding statehood for Ladakh. His protest on March 6 was held at an altitude of three,500 metres with sub-zero temperatures.
He has been highlighting the injury from industrialization to the area’s fragile ecology and the affect on glaciers. One of his calls for is the implementation of the sixth schedule to make sure land safety and autonomy for tribal areas in Ladakh.
