CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin gave orders on Saturday to put aside Rs 25 crore to raise town’s sports activities amenities, that are older than 25 years, to world requirements.
As per the CM’s order, Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (each Indoor and outside), Velachery Swimming Complex and Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium could be developed at a price of Rs 25 crore.
According to an official launch, the state authorities has allotted Rs 11.34 crore and Rs 5.71 crore for upgrading Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, respectively, to worldwide normal.
About Rs 2.35 crore could be spent on growing Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium, whereas the Velachery Swimming Complex would see a whole makeover to worldwide normal at a price of Rs 4.72 crore, the discharge added.
The authorities has proposed to spend Rs 88 lakh on upgrading the Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium, which has hosted ATP tournaments. The allocation has been made in accordance with the budgetary announcement to make Chennai the sports activities capital of the nation.
The state authorities has allotted funds for the infra improve days after the state emerged second within the Khelo India Youth Games by bagging 38 awards.
The CM attributed the success of the state athletes to encouragement and assist supplied by his authorities, primarily state sports activities minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
