Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 9 Highlights: Star wrestler Ravi Dahiya triumphed in his men’s 57 kg final to win gold and soon after, Vinesh Phogat won her third consecutive gold at the Commonwealth Games. India got a third wrestling gold on the day as Naveen beat Pakistan’s ;Muhammad Sharif Tahir in the men’s 74kg final. Their wins came soon after Pooja Gehlot became the first Indian wrestler to win a medal on the day as she brought home bronze in women’s 50kg. There were two more bronze medals in wrestling as Pooja Sihag beat Australia’s Naomi de Bruine in women’s 76kg and Deepak Nehra triumphed over Pakistan’s Tayab Raza in men’s 97kg. The other gold medal of the day came from para table tennis star Bhavinaben Patel. The Indian men’s hockey team also beat South Africa to reach the final. Sagar Ahlawat (men’s super heavyweight) became the fourth boxer after Nikhat Zareen (women’s light flyweight), Amit Panghal (men’s flyweight) and Nitu Ganghas (women’s minimum weight) to qualify for the final of their respective categories on Saturday. Pugilists Jaismine Lamboriya and Hussam Uddin Mohammed lost their respective semi-final bouts and took home bronze medals. Before that, athletics gave India lot to cheer about in the afternoon session as Priyanka Goswami won a silver medal in 10,000m race walk final while Avinash Sable won silver in men’s 3000m steeplechase. Later, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated England by fours runs to qualify for the final. Sonalben Patel also won the bronze medal in the para table tennis women’s singles classes 3-5.
In lawn bowls men’s fours gold medal match, India lost to Northern Ireland and took home silver.
In badminton, PV Sindhu has entered the singles semi-finals. Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen also reached the men’s singles semis. Star table tennis players like Achanta Sharath Kamal has performed brilliantly. In squash, Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal have lost their mixed doubles semi-final.
