On Sunday morning, the MoU was signed between Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO of DP World for Virgin Hyperloop and TM Vijay Bhaskar, IAS, chief secretary of Karnataka. The signatures set the court for a study to commence into the possibility of hyperloop technology to the city center to the KIA where over 1,000 people can be transported at a time at an estimated speed of 1080 kmph. At present travel time from city to Bengaluru airport takes over an hour by road.

Speaking at the event, Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) that operates KIA, said that it was a pathbreaking event for the city. “This is the first time that an attempt is made to connect an airport with the city center through hyperloop transportation technology that is eco-friendly,” Marar added.
Vijay Bhaskar, IAS, welcomed the study to connect Bengaluru airport and other cities to the airport. “The Karnataka government is fully supportive of the study that gives the opportunity to provide faster, cheaper and eco-friendly mode of transport to the people of the state,” he said.
The study by BIAL and DP World on the feasibility of constructing a hyperloop transportation system with Virgin will begin soon.
