The World Health Organization discovered contaminated cough syrup, manufactured in India, within the Western Pacific islands, it mentioned in a statement Tuesday.
The WHO discovered tainted samples of a cough syrup referred to as Guaifenesin syrup TG syrup in Marshall Islands and Micronesia made by Indian pharmaceutical agency, QP Pharmachem. The syrup contained “unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants,” substances that are poisonous to people when consumed, it mentioned. However, the report doesn’t point out any particular person falling sick.
