Scientists from the Imperial College London have announced that they are immunizing hundreds of people with an experimental COVID vaccine in its early trials after seeing no side effects and safety problems in the small number of people vaccinated so far.

The scientists initially tested the vaccine at a low dose in initial participants and now will be expanding the trial to 300 people, including some candidates over the age of 75.

The number of coronavirus cases in Britain has dropped dramatically, which makes it difficult to figure out if the vaccine is actually working. Thus, the scientists want to test the vaccine somewhere else.

The vaccine by the Imperial college uses the synthetic strands of genetic codes based on the virus. Once injected, the body’s cells are instructed to make copies of a spiky protein on the coronavirus. This, in turn, should trigger an immune response so the body can fight off the infection.

Several other vaccines by China, Britain and Russia are under triaL.

The multiple vaccine approach is necessary for COVID 19, noting that usual success for the vaccine is 10 per cent.
