Anosmia is the loss of ability to smell. You miss out on a lot of scents and fragrances, which can impact your day to day lifestyle. Without the ability to smell, there is no way you can relish food, your taste buds will probably go bland, eventually leading to distaste for food, loss of appetite and weight loss.

In a survey conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center of 322 respondents, it was found that COVID-induced loss of smell could disrupt eating habits and lead to weight loss.
With 55 percent of the respondents reporting loss of appetite and 37 percent showing signs of weight loss, experts indicated a possibility of malnourishment. That said, people continue to struggle with eating because of distorted smell and lack of sensory pleasures.
