(WBNG) — The New York State Public High School Athletic Association COVID-19 Task Force met Monday as the fall sports season nears a return.

The task force is preparing a document to provide member schools with guidance on the fall season. It is expected to be released Sept.4.

Other decisions made by NYSPHSAA officers at the meeting include:

  • Pushing back the start of the winter sports season from November 16 to Nov. 30, allowing schools more time to complete the fall season.
  • Required number of practices revised (twelve for football, ten for other sports).
  • Seven consecutive day rule waived beginning Oct. 12.
  • Low/moderate-risk sports can only compete within league or section until October 19.

High-risk sports (football and volleyball) are still being considered for the fall season.

Low/moderate-risk sports are able to begin practicing and competing Sept. 21. High-risk sports are limited to practice beginning on that date.
